Story Problem using the Web

Each week the students are sent a story problem to complete.  They are asked to complete these problems with their partner by the end of the week.  In solving these problems they are to use a link, I provide, to gather their data.  Then from this data they are able to solve the problems at hand.  This week some students are working on problems dealing with animal speeds, others are working on problems dealing with famous United States building heights and some groups are completing problems based on populations of Wisconsin Cities.  Below I shared one of these problems with you.  Logan and Joey provided the answers to these problems.  Don't be afraid to click on the words "Animal Speeds" below this paragraph.  This will bring you to the link that Logan and Joey had to use to gather their data.

Animal Speeds

Round to the nearest mile except for the tortoise.  If the following animals traveled at their top speeds for three hours, how many miles would each of them travel? Remember that mph stands for miles per hour.

Animal
Distance Traveled in 3 hours
Black Mamba
20 x 3 = 60 miles
Cheetah
75 x 3 = 225 miles
Elk
50m x 3=150 miles
Road Runner
20m x 3 = 60 miles
Pig
11m x 3= 33 miles
Wildebeest
40m x 3 = 120 miles
Galapagos Tortoise
0.2 m x 3 = 0.6 miles
Six-lined racerunner
20  x 3=60 miles
Brown Bear
30 x 3=90 miles

Who would travel a greater distance, a polar bear traveling for five hours or an elephant for four hours?  Elephant is runs more in 4 hours than the polar bear does in 5 hours.
19 x 5=  95 m    25 x 4 = 100 m

Share your answers below.  Also, explain how you solved your problems.  If you have time, create your own problem using the data on the link provided .Does the road runner run more in 6 hours than the cheetah does in 2 hours?
