Math Problems

Here are some recent math problems the students were asked to solve.  Most students were successful with these problems.  The students had to actually cut the string according to the directions for the string problem.  Some students had to redo this problem a few times, but they eventually found success.

Ms. Mueller baked 8 pans of brownies.  She cut each pan of brownies into four equal rows with 6 brownies in each row.  How many brownies did she bake in all?

Mr. Raasch and Mr. Moore are good at wrapping presents.  Mr. Raasch can wrap 3 presents in 15 minutes. Mr. Moore can wrap 4 presents in 15 minutes.  They need to wrap a total of 35 presents as a team.  How long will it take them to wrap these presents?

Mr. Grunwald had 27 baseball hats.  His mom gave him 14 more baseball hats.  He put 5 of his baseball hats in his closet.  The rest of his baseball hats he placed on a shelf in his  room.  He put 6 hats on each shelf.  How many shelves did he use for his baseball hats?

There are 3 rows of cookies in each box.  There are 6 cookies in each row.  Ms. Tellen would like to buy enough cookies for her whole class.  She would like each person in her class to get 2 cookies.  If she has 22 students in her class and two teachers, how many boxes of cookies should she buy?

Ms. Baumann was given a 24 inch piece of string.  She cut this piece of string in half.  Then she took one of these pieces and cut it into three equal pieces.  Finally, Ms. Bauman cut one of these smaller pieces of string into four equal pieces.  How long was each of these pieces of string?  How many pieces of string did she cut her 24 inch piece of string into?  How many of each size string did she have?
