Pizza Problem

Below is a math problem that the students are being asked to solve over the next two weeks.

  1. Watch the video above.
  2. In the video the waitress keeps going back to get a new pizza as each new person comes to share one pizza with his or her friends.  This would be a waste of pizza and the restaurant would lose money.  I would like you to find a way to share the least amount of pizzas to solve this problem.  Begin by making a circle on a piece of paper.  Make sure you do not make your circle free hand.  Trace a circle by using an object or something else.  Then divide the pizza for two people.  Measure carefully.
  3. Now draw another circle and divide it for two people.  Basically copy what you did for the previous task.  Now find a way to change it so it would serve three people equally.
  4. Now create another circle that shows how you divided the pizza for question #3.  Now find a way to divide this pizza for four people equally.
  5. Make another circle that shows how you divided the pizza for question #4.  Now find a way to divide this pizza for five people equally.
  6. Draw another circle that shows how you divided the pizza for question #5.  Now find a way to divide this pizza for six people equally.
  7. Create a new circle.  Divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  8. Draw sausages on ½ of the pizza.
  9. Draw green peppers on ⅜ of the pizza.
  10. Draw cheese on 8/8 of the pizza.
  11. Draw pepperoni on 2/8 of the pizza.
  12. Draw mushrooms on 4/8 of the pizza.
  13. Finally draw bacon on 1/8 of the pizza.
  14. What slice of pizza would you choose to buy and why?
  15. Watch the video below.
