Biographies

This week we started to read biographies during guided reading.  The students were sent a document of tasks to complete after they read one of the biographies in our classroom.  After completing this document they are being asked to read even more biographies and complete these same tasks for each story they read.  Our goal is to figure out some important inside traits that all of these people have or had during their lives.  Each student will take the information they learned about the people they read about and apply it to their own life.  The tasks they are being asked to complete are posted below.  I will share some of their responses in the near future.

Biography = a book written by someone else about another person’s life.
Autobiography = a book written by someone about their own life

  1. Read a biography
  2. Write the name of your famous person.
  3. Write down what your person accomplished during his/her life.
  4. Make a timeline and add at least five events from your person’s life.
  5. Write down the most important inside trait that you feel your  person has or had.  Use at least two examples from their life that prove they possessed this trait.
  6. Write down two other important facts from your person’s life that you feel are important for people to know about him or her.  Explain why you chose these two facts.
  7. Find at least two words from your story that you needed to or need to find the meaning of.  Use context clues and figure out their meanings.
  8. Choose another book and complete the same steps for this new person’s life.
