Rock Sorting

The students were given 12 different rocks.  They were asked to sort them into three categories.  The categories were igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks.  As they sorted them they were asked to explain why they felt each type of rock belonged in the category they place them in.  Our science time flew by, so we are planning on using more time tomorrow to finish this activity.
