Recipe Problems

Here are some recipe problems students are being asked to solve this week.  This is a great way for them to apply their fraction knowledge to an everyday type of problem.  The problems below were completed by Brayden.





Double the ingredients for the chocolate chip cookie recipe.
  • 4 ½  cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup (4 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 2/4  cup granulated sugar
  • 1 2/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cup chopped nuts




Pretend that you only have a ¼ cup measuring tool.  How many fourth cups would you need to use for the correct amount of flour?   18
Triple the ingredients for the salmon recipe.
  • 3 salmon filet, about 6  pounds, left whole
  • 9 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ¾ cup chopped parsley
  • 1 ½  cup chopped Parmesan cheese

You only have a ⅛ cup measuring tool.  How many ⅛ cups will you need in order to use the correct amount of parsley? Parmesan cheese?  parsley= 6

Quadruple the ingredients for the lasagna recipe.
  • 4 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • Italian Sausage Grillers
  • 12/4 pound lean ground beef
  • 16 cup minced onion
  • Onions White
  • 8 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 4 (112 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 8 (24 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 8 (26 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
  • Hunt's Tomato Sauce 400% Natural
  • 2 cup water
  • 8 tablespoons white sugar
  • 6 teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 16 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 48 lasagna noodles
  • 64 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 4 egg
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 12/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 12/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/2 pound potatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 to 3/8 cup olive oil
