Review Math Problems

Below are some math problems the students were asked to solve at the start of math today.  Usually we start with a review before we discuss any new math concepts.   The explanations in orange were written by Julian.  The explanations in red are similar answers given by other students, but are rewritten by myself.

Would you rather have ⅖ of this quesadilla or 4/10 of it?  Explain.
It does not matter because they are the same amount.

Kylie ate 4/10 of this quesadilla.  Elexus ate 5/10 of this quesadilla.  Kylie said that she ate more.  Is she correct?  Explain.  How much quesadilla would be left if they ate that amount?
Elexus ate more because 5 is bigger than 4. If the denominators are the same you look at the numerator. If there is a 4 and a 6 as the numerators, six is bigger than 4.
There is 1/10 left, because 4/10 + 5/10 = 9/10.  9/10 + 1/10 = 10/10 or a whole.

If Logan ate 5 pieces of this quesadilla, what fraction of the quesadilla did he eat?  Explain.
Logan ate 5/10 or ½ of the quesadilla.  5 is half of 10.
